Furthermore, how can I make my way to management, how long does it take usually?

It probably depends on the hotel/motel for all of those answers and what kind of person who would be doing the promoting. Moving up depends on how good you do your job, etc. But do it morally and ethically, no kissing up. Good luck!

Front Office/Guest Service is part of the Operation Divison of Hotel/Timeshare etc. Guest needs are 24/7, so be prepared to work upon the demand of customers, be it any day of the week. It is a tough gig, unless you have a passion to work with people…..if so…it is rewarding and as you progress you become more in control of your work week.

If you are still looking for the job, at the interview ask them these questions. Especially, ask them if there are opportunities for advancement. This lets them know you are in it for the long haul and not just for a simple job opportunity. Also, ask them if they have a managment training program and how you can get involved in that. On the side, you should work on a degree in business administration or management or a degree in hospitality management, if you don’t already have one.
