Where can a teen with addicted parents get support in the San Diego Area?
I am an aunt of four children, two girls of 15, 13 and twins 10 years. Her mother (my sister) is addicted to methamphetamine. The parents have abandoned them as babies and have never been a part of their lives. They lived with his grandparents (my parents), but in a very active life. There is only one bed and three others sleeping on the floor. My parents do their best, but unfortunately not an ideal situation. I have two younger sisters still live at home with my parents, so now there are 8 people living under one roof. I know that children are stressed and tend to act. I searched all over the web trying to find help for them. Most of what I want is for adolescents with addictions. Fortunately for them, they refrained from using my nephews grow up but I am afraid you will not receive advice or extra help from their mothers follow the same path. They need help before it’s too late!

You can look up a local Alateen chapter. It’s a twelve-step program for teenagers with addiction in the family. If you can get them into therapy (sometimes you can find Universities or community programs that offer psychiatric help at a reduced or scaled fee). You may also consider arranging for them to meet with a school counselor on a regular basis to help them adjust to the new setting and emotions. Good luck!
