Does anyone have a recommendation for a good network in San Diego for a Navy Girlfriend?

We’re not married, but who can not afford all the activities of the Navy base or support group for wives. My love goes to sea again in a month and last year was hard! I need a network this year, with people who understand what it means to be without a loved one is at sea, so thanks!

Have you ever been to Cinchouse.com? It’s a great little sight for military wives and girlfriends and there are A LOT of women on there in San Diego. I met one of my best friends on there and it just so happened that our husbands worked together! So it really worked out. Good luck! If you stay busy deployments go by so much faster than you think they will!

you could look into any activity really – keeping yourself busy will help a lot – take a dance class or pilates, cooking, scrapbooking, those keep me busy.
as far as networking with other family/friends the first answer had a good link, there are actually a lot of websites devoted to that – if you’re into the online network.
does your boyfriend have friends in the navy who are have girlfriends? maybe before they leave y’all can get together for lunch or dinner, go to a club, or something to your liking for a little meet and greet – exchange numbers, etc.

every time my then boyfriend left i didn’t really hang out with too many ‘girlfriends’ because some of them were always up to no good that i’d rather not have known about. i worked a lot.

Does your boyfriend’s command allow you to take part in the FRG (Family Readiness Group)? I know not all do and it’s up to his captain or commander. Our FRG does but the guy has to fill out paperwork to allow the ombudsman and the FRG members to contact his girl. If they allow it, and he’s willing to put you down as “allowed to get information” then the FRG is a great resource because they’ll be people going through the exact same things you are at the same time you are.

If not, look online. CincHouse, Military.com and Sgt. Mom are three of the larger military support boards. They include a lot of people form all across the military.

If you want something more geared to Navy families you can try LovinMySailor.com. LMS has mostly Navy personnel with a smattering of people from other services and you can even find people people close to you on the “west coast” forum.

Other good places to look for close online support are Yahoo groups and MySpace groups. A lot of times you’ll find base specific or boat/ship specific groups through them.

Hope this helps and hang in there.
